CAPAWAV Makes A Bold Statement With Debut EP & Visual “55”
Orange County’s newest rising duo, CAPAWAV, is here to shake up the scene with their debut self-titled EP—out now across all streaming platforms. TyMatts (Pittsburgh) and Dre Delamar (Anaheim) bring together a unique East meets West vibe that’s impossible to ignore.
This 5-track collection is more than just music; it’s a snapshot of two artists in perfect sync, pushing boundaries and blending their diverse influences into something fresh.
The magic between TyMatts and Dre wasn’t something they planned—it just clicked. The two first crossed paths back in 2018 at a show, and immediately realized their creative chemistry was undeniable. From there, it wasn’t long before they were in the studio together, vibing out and shaping a sound that felt like a breath of fresh air in the West Coast rap scene. Fast forward to now, and CAPAWAV’s debut is a full-circle moment.
At the heart of the EP is “55“, a standout track that’s already catching fire. The single blends smooth flows with classic west coast production, and the accompanying cinematic video is straight out of a perfect Southern California scene.
Directed by Lalo Jimenez (Happy Hour Films), the visual showcases TyMatts and Dre living their best lives, cruising through the streets, hitting the basketball court, and catching some skateboarding thrills. The title is a nod to the 55 Freeway in OC, an anthem for taking the road towards your journey and dreams.
“55 was the moment we knew we had something,” Dre Delamar explains.
“We set the bar high with that one. It was the track that made us go .. ‘okay, we’re onto something special here.’ It became the blueprint for the rest of the EP.”
What makes CAPAWAV stand out isn’t just their chemistry—it’s the way they fuse their different worlds. TyMatts, originally from Pittsburgh, brought that East Coast grit when he made the move to California in 2016. Dre, a native of Anaheim, grew up steeped in West Coast culture, and together, they bring the best of both worlds into one explosive sound.
The result? A refreshing mix of raw, heartfelt lyricism and beats that slap.
Before forming CAPAWAV, TyMatts and Dre had already made their mark with their own solo endeavors. While they hadn’t landed any major placements yet (i.w. Paramount, WeTV) Dre grew his personal buzz through a weekly Instagram freestyle series called One-Take Twosday and by branding merch line Fully Felt, and Ty was making waves with his underground releases.
Ty and Dre began collaborating on music together, landing placements and sharing stages with artists like Yung Pinch, which helped solidify their partnership before officially forming the duo.
“For me, this project is a testament to how much we’ve grown as both artists and people,” says TyMatts.
“We’ve spent the last few years perfecting our craft, and this EP reflects that journey. It’s a celebration of the bond Dre and I have built.”
With their debut project and “55” making waves, CAPAWAV isn’t just here to stay—they’re here to make their mark. Keep an eye on this duo because they’re just getting started!
