Congestion Relief Zone Tolling Begins In New York City
Starting January 5, 2025, driving into Manhattan’s Central Business District (CBD) — aka the Congestion Relief Zone (CRZ) — will come with a price.
If you’re headed below 60th Street, you’ll now need to budget for a toll, unless you’re sticking to the FDR Drive, the West Side Highway/Route 9A, or using the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel to West Street. Those routes are toll-free zones within the CRZ.
The tolls vary based on your vehicle type, the time of day, and whether you’re using E-ZPass or another payment method. For example, if you’re driving a passenger car with E-ZPass, expect to pay $9.00 during peak hours and just $2.25 for those late-night drives. Luckily, the charge is only applied once a day.
